“A long time ago, in my youth, I loved to close my eyes and imagine my homeland as my grandfather described it to me. Mountains, beyond the mountains the sea and everywhere, everywhere trees; plane trees, yew, shrub. Now I see that it is exactly as I imagined it to be. It’s a pity that my ears are already hard of hearing, my eyes are hard to see, and my legs do not walk well. But all the same now I can die in peace. I was at home. "

Lyrics of the song "Ubykh" by Vyacheslav Evtykh

The Ubykhs lived on the ancient Adyghe land.
They were a branch on this mighty trunk.
What are you, my century, could not save, save
Their proud language, their guttural mountain speech?

In the high rocks, by the sea, which is called Black,
The Ubykhs lived, but they no longer live.
What, the past century, will you answer for the coming centuries?
This eternal sun, earth, clouds?

Eternal is eternal, and the word is immortal rocks.
The Ubykhs lived, I searched for their trail in vain.
Whether a word, a song, or a cry in that language -
Everything was lost, like a small pebble in the sand.

All that remains is the names of the peaks and plateaus.
Nobody else will say Ubykhsky's words.
Echo disturbs the silence of the aging mountains -
Echo lead wanders in the mountains to this day ...

The Ubykhs lived on the ancient Adyghe land,
They were a branch on this mighty trunk.
Time will call out - but where is he, the language gone?
As if history was silently frozen for a moment!
