Description
Victory Day
War always starts suddenly, although after a generation for historians it seems inevitable. In 1941, the worst, closest, most expensive war began - the Great Patriotic War. They say that without huge losses the Nazis could not be stopped ...
May 9 - Victory Day in the war over fascist Germany - is one of the most important, touching and glorious holidays in Russia, the former Soviet republics and many European countries.
An important stage was the "Battle for the Caucasus." In the summer offensive of 1942, A. Hitler and his generals, despite their defeat in the battle of Moscow, hoped to defeat the entire southern flank of the Soviet front and secure their access to the Volga and the Caucasus. The German army needed the natural resources of the southern regions of the USSR - bread, oil, various minerals. Having accomplished this task, A. Hitler hoped to inflict a decisive defeat on the Red Army and secure for himself the successful conduct of the war on a global scale for many years.
The German command intended to bypass the Main Caucasian Range from the west, capturing Novorossiysk and Tuapse, and from the east - breaking into Grozny and Baku. The Soviet group was supposed to dismember and destroy, take oil fields into their own hands, and destroy the Black Sea Fleet bases or paralyze their activities.
German formations and their allies advanced very quickly at first. With heavy losses, Soviet troops retreated to the lower reaches of the Don River and to the Kuban River. In August 1942, the Germans captured Stavropol, Maykop (on the eve of the Red Army's withdrawal, it was possible to disable the main oil production capacities in the Maykop area), Krasnodar. At the end of August, units of the Wehrmacht broke into Mozdok, a threat arose to Grozny - its oil fields and refineries.
The enemy tried to break through the central part of the Caucasus Range - the Germans and Italians had trained climbers. But the courage of our troops frustrated these plans.
Gradually, enemy units began to lose their battle ardor. The desperate resistance of the Soviet troops at Ordzhonikidze (Vladikavkaz), through which the enemy tried to break through to Grozny, forced the Germans to roll back.
But, despite the numerical superiority and fierce fighting, by October 9, 1943 the territory of the Caucasus region was liberated. Prerequisites were created for the landing on the Kerch Peninsula and the liberation of the Crimea.

Description
Day of Remembrance and Sorrow of the Victims of the Caucasian War
On May 21, 1864, the Caucasian War ended (1817-1864), during which hundreds of thousands of Adygs and Abkhazians died, the survivors were subjected to mass deportation to the Ottoman Empire, after which less than 5% of the indigenous population remained in their historical homeland.
From 1858 to 1865, according to official statistics alone, up to half a million people were evicted from their lands. The highlanders left their homes, left property, livestock - all this went to the Cossacks who settled in their places. Representatives of the Adyghe-Abkhaz peoples were expelled to Turkey along the Black Sea - a route that became a cemetery for a huge number of people.
Every year on May 21 in Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia, victims of the Caucasian War are remembered. This day is officially declared a memorable and non-working day in these three republics of the Russian Federation. Memorial Day is celebrated also abroad - in Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Abkhazia, Israel and the USA. Wherever the descendants of the Circassian Muhajirs live. The lessons of the Russian-Caucasian war are discussed at round tables, mourning rallies, processions and other commemorative events.

Day of Slavic Writing and Culture (Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius)
Every year on May 24 in all Slavic countries celebrate the Day of Slavic writing and culture and solemnly glorify the creators of the Slavic writing of Saints Cyril and Methodius - Slovenian teachers. As you know, the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles brothers Cyril and Methodius came from a noble and pious family and lived in the Greek city of Soluni (now Thessaloniki).
On May 24, the Church performs a festive service in memory of the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Brothers Cyril and Methodius. The brothers were Orthodox monks and created the Slavic alphabet in a Greek monastery.
Scientists believe that Slavic writing was created in the 9th century, around 863. The new alphabet was called "Cyrillic" by the name of one of the brothers, Constantine, who, having adopted monasticism, became Cyril. And his elder brother Methodius helped him in the charitable cause of the formation of Slavic peoples.

Description
Day of Russia
Russia Day is an important state holiday of the Russian Federation, celebrated annually on June 12. Until 2002, it was referred to as the Day of the adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Russia. This is one of the "youngest" public holidays in the country.
On June 12, 1990, the first Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR adopted the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Russia, in which the primacy of the Constitution of Russia and its laws was proclaimed. By that time, many republics of the USSR had already decided on their sovereignty, so this document was adopted in a situation when the republics became independent one after another. And an important milestone in strengthening Russian statehood was the adoption of a new name for the country - the Russian Federation (Russia).
By the way, on June 12, in addition to “independence”, Russia gained its first President on this day, but already in 1991 the first popular elections in the history of the country took place, in which B.N. won Yeltsin. It was he who, by decree No. 1113 of June 2, 1994, gave state significance on June 12, and the holiday itself was named - the Day of the adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of the Russian Federation. Later, for simplicity, it was called Independence Day.

Description
Day of Remembrance and Sorrow - the day of the beginning of World War II
June 22, 1941 is one of the saddest dates in the history of Russia - the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow - the day the Great Patriotic War began.
This day reminds us of all those who died in battles, tortured in fascist captivity, who died in the rear from starvation and deprivation. We grieve for all those who, at the cost of their lives, have fulfilled a holy duty, protecting the Fatherland in those harsh years.
Early in the morning of June 22, 1941, without a declaration of war, Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union, inflicting a massive blow to military and strategic targets and many cities. Thus began the Great Patriotic War, which lasted 1418 days and nights, and in which the USSR lost about 27 million people, but was able to survive.

Unity Day of the Peoples of Karachay-Cherkessia
July 3 - Day of Unity of the Peoples of Karachay-Cherkessia, is associated with the day of the formation of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region. Karachay-Cherkessia is a multinational international republic of the North Caucasus, on the territory of which about 100 nationalities live - a relatively young holiday for the Republic, but it has already become truly beloved by the peoples of Karachay-Cherkessia. This day is a holiday of friendship and hospitality. The traditions of kunatism and mutual assistance between the inhabitants of the republic - representatives of different nationalities - continue, and Unity Day is the best confirmation of this.
The theme of unity of the peoples of the Caucasus is dedicated to the stela "Friendship of the peoples of Karachay-Cherkessia." It is located on Friendship Square. Its author is the architect Rozhin and sculptor Ikonnikov. In 1957, for the first time, the 400th anniversary of the voluntary accession of these peoples to Russia was solemnly celebrated in Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Adygea. In honor of this significant date, it was decided to build monuments in the cities of Nalchik, Cherkessk, Maykop. The construction of the square and the monument in Cherkessk was completed in 1979.

Every year on July 8, an important Russian holiday is celebrated - Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. It is symbolic that it was first celebrated in 2008, which was declared the year of the family in Russia.
This holiday was founded on the initiative of the deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which was supported by all the traditional religious organizations of Russia - because the idea of celebrating Family Day, love and fidelity has no confessional boundaries. Each religion has examples of family loyalty and love.
The idea of the holiday arose several years ago among residents of the city of Murom (Vladimir Region), where the relics of the holy spouses Peter and Fevronia, patrons of a Christian marriage, whose memory is celebrated on July 8, rest.

Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation
The Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation is celebrated annually on August 22. It was established on the basis of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of August 20, 1994 "" On the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation "".
On this day in 1991, the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR adopted a resolution "" On the official recognition and use of the National Flag of the RSFSR "", which decided to consider the historical flag of Russia - a panel of equal-sized horizontal white, azure, scarlet stripes before the establishment of a new state symbols of the Russian Federation by a special law - the official National flag of the Russian Federation.
The Russian tricolor has more than 300 years of history. The national flag in Russia appeared at the turn of the XNUMXth-XNUMXth centuries, during the era of the formation of Russia as a powerful state. For the first time, a white-blue-red flag with a double-headed eagle sewn on it was raised on the first Russian warship "Orel", during the reign of the father of Peter I, Alexei Mikhailovich, but researchers have no consensus on how these colors were combined.
Peter I was recognized as the legitimate “father” of the tricolor. On January 20, 1705, he issued a decree according to which “on all sorts of merchant ships” “a white-blue-red flag should be raised, he himself drew a pattern and determined the order of the horizontal stripes.

Historically, not all educational institutions in Russia started the academic year on September 1. For example, during the time of Peter I, in some schools and gymnasiums, instruction began at the end of August, mid-September or October, rural literacy schools began to work from December 1.
Even in the USSR, until the mid-1930s, there was no exact date for the start of the school year. According to the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of August 14, 1930, it was stated only that "all children aged 8-10 years should have been admitted to school in the fall."
After the outbreak of World War I, young socialists came up with the initiative to hold an annual International Youth Day (YYD) in order to conduct anti-war actions and peace lessons in schools in all countries. The date of the YUD, at the suggestion of the Comintern of Youth, since 1932 becomes September 1. And already in 1935, the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR and the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks determined the same day as a single date for the beginning of the school year in all schools of the Soviet Union. In 1939, on September 1, Nazi Germany unleashed World War II, and the anti-war significance of this date increased

Days of mourning in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania
On September 1, 2004, in the city of Beslan, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, a terrorist detachment led by Ruslan Khuchbarov (also known as Colonel and Rasul), numbering more than 30 people (including women), seized the building of secondary school №1.
In the morning, during the celebratory assembly dedicated to the Day of Knowledge, held in the courtyard of the educational institution, armed people suddenly jumped out of the approaching truck covered with an awning and, opening fire from automatic weapons over the heads of the audience, began to drive everyone present into the building. Only a few managed to escape the fate of hostages by taking advantage of the panic.
The number of hostages, according to initial data, was 354 people (later it turned out that there were much more of them — 1116 people). The overwhelming majority of those in captivity were children (including those of preschool age).
On November 26, 2004, the President of North Ossetia signed a decree "On the ethical and moral situation around the Beslan tragedy," according to which September 3 was declared in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania as the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the terrorist act in the city of Beslan in 2004.
Since 2005, annually in North Ossetia on September XNUMX, three-day mourning events commemorate the victims of the terrorist attack in the Beslan school, and in Beslan itself, the beginning of the school year is shifted by three days because of mourning.
On mourning days, people bring flowers to the ruins of the school and to the City of Angels memorial cemetery, where most of the hostages are buried. In 2005, a monument to the "Tree of Sorrow" was unveiled on it, and in 2006 - a memorial to the FSB special forces and rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations who died during the release of hostages.

The Circassian Cavalry Regiment of the Caucasian Native Cavalry Division, which is better known as the "Wild", was formed over 100 years ago in Armavir.
“The highlanders of the Caucasus fought in Galicia, the Carpathians and Romania. The Circassian regiment, like others, showed how they know how to fight in the Caucasus. It is because of the dashing attacks on the positions of the Austrians on the South-Western Front that the division was nicknamed "Wild", - said historian Alexander Danilchenko. Description
Day of the Unity of the Peoples of Dagestan
The Day of the Unity of the Peoples of Dagestan is a republican holiday, which is celebrated annually on September 15, starting in 2011. It was established in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic No. 104 of July 6, 2011, in order to unite and consolidate the multinational people of Dagestan, and is an official day off.
The events to which this holiday is timed took place in 1741. In the middle of the 18th century, the great Iranian commander Nadir Shah, at the head of a well-armed army of 100, moved to the Caucasus. He intended to pass in two huge columns through Derbent, Kaitag and shamkhalstvo Tarkovskoye to the capital of the Mehtuli Khanate, Dzhengutai, on the one hand, and through Shah-Dag, Mogu-dare, Kazi-Kumukh and Khunzakh, on the other, in order to conquer all of Dagestan as a result.
At first, Nadir Shah's plans of conquest were carried out exactly as he had planned. The huge army won one victory after another, inflicting reprisals against the population along the way. As a result, having taken Kazi-Kumukh along the way, the Shah's troops reached the borders of Andalal. The invasion of the city began on September 12, 1741.
The decisive battle in Andalal territory lasted five days. The heroism of the defenders of their native land has become a mass phenomenon. Thus began the expulsion of the Shah from the Dagestan land.
The Andalal victory strengthened the geopolitical significance of Dagestan as an important strategic bridge between West and East, becoming a convincing evidence of the strength and power of the Dagestani peoples. But the memory of the heroes was consigned to oblivion for several centuries.
In December 2010, at the III Congress of the Peoples of Dagestan, it was decided to introduce a new holiday in the republic - the Day of the Unity of the Peoples of Dagestan. By a decree of the President of the Republic of Dagestan dated July 6, 2011, it was decided to celebrate it on September 15, the day when the Dagestan army put the hordes of Nadir Shah into flight.
On the very same holiday, already traditionally, various solemn events, folk festivals, concerts of folklore groups, sports competitions in national sports, fairs and other actions and events are held throughout the Republic. Educational and scientific institutions for this day arrange open lessons, historical expositions, photo and book exhibitions.

Day of the Adygs (Circassians) (Kabardian-Circassian Adygehem (Sherdzheskhem) I Mahue) - September 20 - a public holiday of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
Day of Adygs (Circassians) September 20 is a public holiday of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. It has been celebrated annually since 2014 and is a non-working day in the republic.
September 20 falls on the period when the Circassians celebrated the end of agricultural work. One grain crop - millet - was harvested, and the corn began to be harvested. On this day (in Kabardian it is called “Tkhelelu”) rituals of worship of deities - patrons of agricultural work were performed.
The holiday is intended to serve as an incentive for strengthening ties and further consolidating the Adyghe (Circassian) ethnos, most of which currently live outside their historical homeland, as well as strengthening the unity of the peoples of Kabardino-Balkaria

Description
Day of the national Adyghe (Circassian) costume
Circassian national dress has a long history. Over the centuries, it has changed in accordance with the tastes of different eras. The traditional dress - "adyge fashche", in the past was used only in wealthy families, during festive events and for meeting guests. Expensive outfits were not available to ordinary people. Nevertheless, even simple shirts, cloaks, dresses and chuvyaki were created with taste.
Traditional men's clothing of the past was distinguished by the severity of colors with a predominance of dark colors, sometimes combined with white. Almost all fabrics were of the same color and without a pattern. In women's clothing, red predominated, mostly dark tones. Dark red, burgundy, cherry velvet or silk were used for dresses, caftans, bibs, armbands, hats.
Under the influence of global fashion, national clothing is being transformed today. Experienced fashion designers and designers know three components of the success of national Circassian motives - brevity, sophistication and restraint. For example, the bashlyk today from an element of a costume for holidays and demonstrations, which almost disappeared half a century ago, it is becoming a popular part of everyday clothing, both for men and women.
The Circassian girl's dress is again on the wave of popularity today. Modern materials give a special look to the old tradition, especially at weddings. National motives of shirts, T-shirts, women's dresses, scarves and small attributes of clothing have become popular.
The popularity of modern adapted types of national clothes, in my opinion, is neither bad nor good, but just a matter of taste. But one thing is clear - its value in preserving traditions is just as strong, for tradition is a living and changeable essence.
