Description

Day Adyghe (Circassian) language and writing. This holiday was approved in 2000 in honor of the publication of the first "Primer of the Circassian language" in Tiflis on March 14, 1853.

Created by the outstanding Adyghe enlightener Umar Bersei on an Arabic graphic basis, the primer was the first textbook for highlanders who studied in schools, gymnasiums and schools of the North Caucasus.
The acquisition of written language by the Circassians played a huge role in the development of national culture. Adyghe (Circassian) language is the state language in three republics: Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia.

Every year on March 14 the whole Circassian world celebrates the day of their native language and written language. Today this is especially true, since there is the problem of preserving the Adyghe culture and the Adyghe language.
