Christmas is a holiday that is celebrated in all Christian countries. It is customary to spend it in the circle of relatives and friends at a magnificent table.
Catholics and Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas at different times. This is due to the fact that different calendars were used for the calculation - Julian and Gregorian. It is customary for Catholics to celebrate Christmas before the New Year - on December 25, and for Orthodox Christians after - on January 7.
The righteous of the Old Testament believed that a Savior would come, who would reconcile humanity with God and save people from sin.
The baby was born to Joseph and Mary, who were on their way to Bethlehem as the world census was announced. They were forced to stay for the night in a den (cave), into which the shepherds drove their cattle in bad weather.
Mary gave birth in the middle of the night and, having swaddled the baby, put him in a nursery. The first to visit the Savior were the shepherds, to whom an angel appeared and told about the good news. Then the wise men appeared, who presented gifts - gold, incense and myrrh.
